Idle Speed Adjustment on '87 F150 with Holley Model 4180 Carb
I have an '87 F150 with a Holley 4180 carb that has a "Decel Throttle Control Kicker" according to my Chilton manual. A garage put on a rebuilt carb for me, but now I have the following problem; when I start the truck, it idles @2600 RPM till it's warm, then the idle is ok. Once warm, if I put on the A/C, engine will rev up again. So I checked the Decel Throttle Control Kicker ( which Chilton says is what controls the idle speed ) and it is already set to it's minimum setting and it's still setting the idle way too high. This worked perfect on the card that was just replaced. Is it possible that the linkage is not set right, allowing the throttle to be closer to the solenoid than I had with the previous carb. Or should I modify the bracket to make an extension so I can adjust it. Any help here would be greatly appreciated, or even how the Decel Throttle Control Kicker works, ie. how much does the solenoid extend at start-up, when engine at operating temp, and when A/C is on, or does it control idle and anti-stalling as well.
