I've wanted to do this, too, but I WANT A 6-SPD! Okay, I feel better now.

My questions are:
WHEN do you activate the switch to lock the TC?
Is this gear-specific?
Do you lock the TC after the tranny shifts into OD?
Do you lock the TC after 25 MPH no matter what gear the tranny is in?
Do you lock the TC after releasing the brake?
Will this affect the tranny's "normal" upshift/downshift process?
When this mod is activated, does it cause the OD light to flash?

Is that all this mod requires...a switch, a long wire to splice into the purple/yellow tracer wire, and a ground wire?

Those pictures and instructions are great. Attempting to REP you after this posting.

Thank you for the info. I feel more confident about attempting this mod now.

Torque converter == left foot.

But we don't get to flip up that cool "okay, launch the nukes" switch cover. Bonus points for that; it makes it look so important.

You can lock it as soon as you hit about 25mph, I wouldn't any sooner than that. It won't effect the shifting of the transmission at all. One thing you'll notice is if you lock it manually before it locks on it's own the RPM's will drop a bit as it locks. The OD light has never flashed from this. And if you wait till you hit OD to turn it on you won't notice anything till you let off the throttle. I usually flip it on at about 25mph and then flip it off at the same point when coming to a stop.

I generally don't use it if I'm in town where there are a lot of stop lights and such just because it's a pain to keep flipping it on and off. I just can't afford a cool automatic one.

So just to clarify, You can shift up with the TC locked without doing damage to the transmission? What about when hauling a big load?

I only use mine when towing or when "racing".

Don't lock the TC under 25mph, you could damage the tranny. It will probably make the shifts feel a bit crisper, and you won't have those weird sliding half-shifts that the TC usually makes. It shifts a lot better with it locked.

THe OD light does not flash when it's activated.

I notice that the truck pulls a lot harder and shifts firmer when I activate mine around 25-30 mph.

Is that with just a stock E40D transmission? I just dont want to cause any excess damage to the stock converter and shafts. Ive been all over forums trying to get information and it seems that most dodge owners dont recommend shifting with the TC locked... but there transmissions arent stellar. But if I just get on the throttle after locking it at 25 it wont hurt anything?

You won't hurt anything as long as you unlock it before you slow down below 25mph. If you forget to switch it back off when you come to a stop the truck will probably die and it'll lug down really bad. That's the main thing to watch out for.

There's a company that makes a automatic TC lock that you can set for different speeds too, but it's about $250
