Question Stock 6 Disc in dash MP3/CD changer

I own a 2005 F150 with the 6 disc in dash CD changer. I have been having problems with it loading and unloading discs. At first it wouldn't load the disc unless I pushed it in fast. Then it would not eject the disc. I would have to hit load a few times and it would work. Now it just says CD error. It won't read the disc, it won't eject, it won't change to another disc. When I would hit the eject button or the load button it was saying INITIALIZING across the screen but didn't do anything. Now it just says CD error. Is it time for a new stereo or can I pull it out and clean it and get it going again? I also want my CD's back. Thanks for any input.

CD player

Sounds like you're having some of the same issues I had with the one in the truck I just bought. I ended up taking mine in under warranty. I did see somewhere there is a way to 'reinitialize' the unit but I can't find it right now, didn't work on mine anyway.

Mine was replaced under warranty

If you want a durable stereo, I'd say yank that 6 disc and put something aftermarket in that you trust.

Those 6 disc units just have too many parts in too small of a volume and have to do too much work to ever last for long. I dread ever being forced to buy one because I want some other accessory/package on a vehicle.

sounds like time for a new radio.

you are lucky though, Ford went modular with their radios.

You can pull the radio from a plethora of Ford.

I wanted a new stereo anyways for a while but was happy with the sound so I never replaced it. I pulled the deck and removed the cover to expose the inside of the stereo. I had to manually remove the discs once the stereo initialized. Just one disc was jammed in there and wouldn't eject completely. I realized that the small gears and rollers that grab the cd to load and unload are now too weak to move the cd. It just makes noise but won't load the disc. If I force in the cd it just gets misaligned with the motor that spins the cd and starts making all kinds of noise like its just eating up the disc. I gave up and decided it is now a pile of junk and will replace with aftermarket. Thanks guys.
