Question electronic distributor -or stock single points?

I am interested in a electronic distributor in my 1956 F600 WITH 272 2barrel.
I just want to unbolt the original and drop in a new dizzy and coil or whatever it takes as long as it is SIMPLE!!

I have seen pertronix talked about, but this is for a 1956. Any help out there?
Thanks......Bill

Bill,

I would call summit or petronix direct and ask them what unit they would recommend. When i put mine in my 302 it was the easiest thing i have done so far. Also check on summit's web site. They seem to have more parts listed than what they have in their catalog.
If you know what points you use you may be able to match it up that way.

Terry

My brother in law put one in his Chevy 235 six cylinder so you should be able to find one for yours.

The easiest thing to do is put in a Pertronix for 56 and earlier distributor. Very quick, but assumes you have a '56 dist. now. They are listed regularly on ebay for around $70.

Just installing a pertronix kit isnt the answer. You first need to be sure the distributor shaft bushings are in good tight cond.

IF and its a big IF, if the pertronix unit fails, where do you get parts same day?

I would install the kit in a good distributor, install distributor and keep the running points distributor under the seat. Then if you ever have a failure, just pull the dist and swap and down the road you go again.

This is especially important as a tow bill in the F600 would be costly.

I still use points in everything except the race 56. I have a mallory distributor in it.

I have at least 3 (1956) distributors for my truck, and can always re-install one of those in case of a problem.
I drive my trucks alot, and plan on a big trip soon with this 56F600.
This ignitor setup is 109.00 with all the extras and tax and should be a better idea.

I bought Ksmiths' tow-dolly which he used to tow his big 51 wrecker and it is super wide. My idea is in any time I need a tow....the tow-dolly on my other truck will do the job.
I already loaded the 56f600 and towed it 20 miles just to practice....haha!!!
Terry.....yes summer is near over.....thunder-on-the -strip SEPT 12th weekend and it is like STURGIS up here then.....LOL
We are even having a 70s rock band playing in the backyard for the event......and hope to see your awesome truck at lake shore soon.........Bill

Hi Bill,

I got a nice dist from Mike a few years ago that is in great condition and all I did was buy the Pertronix kit and install it.

It was very easy to set up and time etc.

If you have a good dist laying around it would work just fine...

Cheers,

Rick
