6.0 L hesitation

I have a stock 05 EXC 6.0 Liter lately I have noticed a hesitation on slow acceration, and even at 30 MPH when adding slight throttle. Dealership says no codes. I first noticed it when we had 107 deg temps but today it was raining and cool. It's like you are accerating and nothing happens and then bang it jumps in speed. Any ideas?

I'm sure the guys with 6.0L powered Excursions will chime in if they have any idea's, but in the mean time, you'll get a lot more responses if you post this question in the 6.0L PSD forum.

Sounds to me like the vanes on the turbo are sticking but you would get a code for that. I had my turbo replaced at 15k for that.

Sounds to me like the Turbo vanes are sticking, but I'll move this down to the 6.0 forum to get you some better answers.

Take your throttle body off and see if it isn't all gunked up. i've seen some nasty buildups on those. If the turbo isn't spinning freely it make take some extra beef to get it going, then once it's going it's fine, so it might be the bearings or shaft play in there. Keep in mind you have turbo lag, which is made worse by hauling a large or oversized load, check to make sure my ex-wife isn't in the back, that'll really slow you down.

I agree sounds like turbo is coked up,may want to have it check out ford has a kit that cleans that out but it is pretty involved. As far as EGR not sure when my egr and cooler went bad the only thing I had was it started smoke really bad and would only do it once the truck reached temperature and when the valve would open and close. Just my experience

Do you use an additive, I put in too much one time with an accelerated cetane booster, and the truck ran like crap, I had to run it down to about a half a tank, refilled it, and since then no problems. When it first happened I took it to the dealership and they couldnt find any codes either.

Actually...with all due respect, I'm going to go opposite on this one. I had the same issue, crap CA diesel fuel was messing up my injectors. I dumped an entire bottle of RBP additive into a full tank of diesel, then two ounces every time I fill up. Cleaned it out, got rid of any water, don't know if there was any water but hey...can't hurt, and I have been running great ever since - been probably 3 years.

I have a fleet of trucks with just about every modern diesel in them - a Cummins Dodge, a DuraCRAP Chevy, a 7.3, a 6.4 and my daily driver 6.0 Ex. I put a bottle of additive in each of them and when we filled them up, drop an ounce or two in. Every person who drives them could tell a difference.

If you dont use an additive, maybe try one??? Cheap fix if that is the case.
Good luck!

there is a TSB for cleaning/reconditioning the turbo on our trucks. mine was in a few months ago for white smoke (egr cooler replacement) they did the TSB on it for the turbo....didn't meet the standards and they put a new turbo (recon) in under warranty. so if you are still under warranty they probably give you a new turbo...........

Thanks guys. get this the service writer at the dealership told me that since I tow my X behind my motorhome the Turbo is getting plugged up with junk from the road. I must have one bad air filter.

I also have had this dime size oil leak, over the year they have replaced (or at least told me) every O-ring on the engine. Findly they ran out of O-rings and agreed I had a bad short block milling where the oil pan attached. During the replacement of the short block they found the turbo was not turning properly, so they replaced the insides of the turbo and the problem was solved. So was the oil leak.

Told you it was the turbo. I had mine replaced at 15k. I didn't notice any difference in the way that it drove but I got a check engine light.

At least it's fixed. Was it repaired under warranty?
