Smile Headlight knob assembly

Hey guys I have a question for anyone who may be able to shed some light on this project for me I have a 1994 Ford Ranger XLT with a 4.0 liter V6. I have been trying to figure out what is wrong with my headlight knob. I thought my assembly was broken because my headlights would turn on fine when you would pull out the knob, but when I would go to push the knob back in to turn them off there was play in the knob and I would have to put my hand behind the dash to create resistance behind the box so the knob could be pushed in. I bought the new assembly and installed it and the same thing is happening. I now do not think it was the box at all. Is there a part or something that holds that box into place and maybe it came unglued or broke off?

Thanks,
Fordgirl

Due to the lack of responses on this, you might want to try reposting and searching the Ranger/B-Series forum
