V8 a little slugish?

Ive noticed that my expedition is a little sluggish off the line or if i punch it going about 40 down the road. It seemed that my 2002 explorer 4.6 L had more power. Is it just because the expedition EL is a much bigger vehicle?

It's all about power to weight ratio, the Explorer is probably close to 1500lbs lighter than the Expedition with nearly the same amount of power under the hood.. you didnt say what engine the Expy has.

your EL wieghs every bit of 6,000 lbs...and depending on what options you have, may even be closer to 7,000 lbs.

the 5.4 is a great motor, but 300 HP will only get you so much performance.

not to mention, the Transmission is adaptive. So if you drive it like a granny, then the TCM will learn that and shift accordingly. You have to reset the TCM and drive it aggressively so it learns that aggressive pattern. Not night/day difference, but you will notice a better feel

Having had both Explorers and Expys I would not say the 07-08 Expys are slugish. I have yet to see any unmodified Expy or Explorer make me say 'wow' but I think the latest generation is much more peppier that the older suv's.

I recently got the SCT X3 programmer and in "Performance" mode, the throttle feels a lot more responsive, specially at low Rpms/Speed. Some of that throttle lag is gone. At higher speeds, I don't know if the car feels any faster, and I still get crappy MPG.

I traded in a 4.6L 2006 explorer for the 07 5.4L XLT Expy. The Expy smokes the Explorer. You might want to get it looked at if it feels sluggish. My expy is on 33" x12.5 ATs, and it NEVER feels sluggish. Sounds like there might be a problem?

I have an 07 Limited EL Expy and my wife has an 07 Explorer EB with the 4.6. The Expy is certainly more powerful than the Explorer but the Explorer feels more peppy due to it's much lighter weight. Between the 2, I would much, much rather be driving my Expy. I have a lot more fun with it than my wife's Explorer when I have to drive it.

You can't. Unlike the PCM, unhooking the battery does not clear the TCM. Dealer has too.

I have an 07 Expedition (4X4) and it runs extremely well. It mainly sits in the garage and I drive a 2003 F150 regular cab FX4 everyday (with a 5.4) and the Expedition will run circles around it. Around 2,600 to 2,700 PRM this 3V 5.4 really, really wakes up. I can say from experience that some of the very same engine variations will run a lot better than others identical to it.

I would drive it as you normally do. No need to stomp on it unless you like too.
