Volant intake problem

I have a 2003 4.0 Explorer and recently bought the Volant CAI kit part # 19440. When trying to install it, I had run into a problem. The adapter that connects to the M.A.S. and intake elbow seems a little small. I was able to get one side on to the M.A.S., but not the one that fits to the bottom of the intake elbow. The adapter seems very hard and not soft and pliable like most other intake kits I have installed. I tried greasing it up and wedging a screwdriver in it to pull it over. This is what is holding me up. Anyone else have this problem with this exact kit or another with this company?
