Project Flatbed Build Thread

This is what I started with
( when I took these picks, I had just finished sanding the whole thing )

I got the interior painted

Now the outside painted ( pictures are poor quality, but the truck is red)
I used enamel paint called Fire Engine Red used for emergency vehicles, it was 100 bucks cheaper than automotive paint.

Much more to come, I'm back at college so it will be put on hold for a bit. I got a flatbed that I'll post pics of later, FOR FREE!! All the guy wanted was the bed off my truck which was in poor shape.

Well I finalized the deal with the guy who owns that flatbed. I should have it this week, so pics will be following shortly.

thanks, i'm pretty antsy to get this thing done.

The flatbed just got to my house, so hopefully next time I get home I put it on.

I also need to get the front and rear glass put in so I can finish the interior.

Well its been a while since I got to work on the Flatbed. The Thanksgiving break was a good time to get caught up.

I finally got the flatbed on the truck thanks to my dad and his tractor. Notice the cutouts on the side, those will be put back in, the PO had oversized tires and his truck did not sit up as high as mine.

This is how the bed is attached. I'm not sure if this is how they're normally put on, but its solid and should work fine.

The guy even gave me the tall sides to go with it.

I had to make gas tank filler neck go between the frame rail and the flatbed.

And I'll cut a hole in the side for the filler cap to be mounted to.

What I didn't get a picture of was the underside toolbox on the driver side. It's a locking box, and it'll be really handy for storing tools. The panel between the flatbed and the cab will be made permanent and I'll add a headache rack with driving lights.

That's my progress so far, the windshield and back glass will be installed soon.

Hopefully the Christmas break will allow me to find all kinds of time to get this truck done.

This update is long overdue, I finally got home and snapped some pics of the progress that I made.

Being in college sucks for building trucks.

I finally got the windshield and back glass installed and found a set of 16x8 steel wheels for $100. I then mounted my dad's super duty 10 ply tires. They'll work good till I can save for some bigger and meatier.

I am hoping that when I get out of school in May I will be able to finish installing the weatherstripping and and side windows.

The interior is almost finished as well. Just need to get a vinyl floor
