Makings of a new motor!

Well, a couple weeks ago I picked up a complete, running 1962 292 for $150 complete with motor mount, clutch parts and linkage, bell, 3 speed tranny, etc. Guy drove it into the garage and pulled it from a '62 Uni 2 days before I bought it. He admitted it smoked and had a couple dead cylinders but it had everything I needed for my '61 unibody install. Block #C2AE-C. It has steel crank and C2AE rods so that is a plus.

The '62 was a 2bbl motor so I bought a ECZ-9425-B intake a week later for $125.

Today I picked up another 292, block #B9AE-F. This one is also a complete motor (except tranny) but the nice part is the ECZ-G heads and ECG rockers that it has on it. Gave another $150 for this one. It was rebuilt not long ago so I'll need to check into it further to see what all it has inside. Don't know the quality of the rebuild or anything about it. It is really clean inside and doesn't look like it was run much after being rebuilt.

Have a couple distributors to do a Pertronix conversion on and some spare parts. Worked out pretty well except I already have too much junk in the garage now!

Now I have the basics to build a really solid 292 for the Uni. Also looking at the 5 speed swap (see info in the 61-66 section about a new bell that will be available soon).

Wish me luck!

Everything has looked pretty good. I just took the ECZ-G heads off the B9 block today. The block is fresh, .030 over, everything inside is clean and looks good so far. The rockers and shafts are good, too. It is missing 2 pushrods so don't know what that was all about.

The 2 missing pushrods are most likely sitting in the valley. I tore one engine down with a missing pushrod that had dropped into the cam/distributor gears. Totally messed them up but passed into the pan in two pieces.

PC thinks the B9's are a top notch Y block, plus great luck on the heads! After all the engines I've acquired in the last 5 years, there is only one (1) G head, and it is damaged.

I have the valley cover off, clean as a whistle in there, no push rods. I'm thinking they stole a couple from this motor for something else. Tonight the pan comes off and we'll check out the bottom end. The heads go to the shop today so we/ll see if there are any cracks. Keep your fingers crossed.
