I had a '72 F250 camper special 4x2. Got 10mpg period. Loaded, unloaded, uphill, downhill. headwind or tailwind. Didn't seem to make a difference. Loved that truck. Dan.

Good info in this thread, cause I'm making a few changes to see if I can get a little more out of my 68 F100 360 2bbl C6 LWB.

I bought it in Tulsa a few weeks ago. Drove it back to east Tennessee, a little over 800 miles. For some reason known only to the powers that be, Ford put a 12 gal tank behind the seat, meaning i had to stop for gas and Mt. Dew every 100 - 125 miles. Most it ever heald was 10 gal. It got 12.5 mpg at 5 to 10 over the speed limit, 65 to 70 mph, at every fill-up but the first.

I have not checked it locally yet...

It loves the mountains btw

Boss, I don't think Ford installed 12 gallon tanks behind the seat.

Me either, John, till i bought this one. Had a few people locally confirm they had previously had them too. Its too small for the mpg, that for sure.

I've see a couple of retro fits online that mounts to the frame, but have not looked at them too close yet, not sure what they do about the filler cap.

Bob, I have been around these ol trucks all my life and never even heard of this. I would like to see a photo of it if you wouldn't mind.

You can load it in your garage or email it through my user profile.

I wasn't aware that people bought these trucks for the MPG....LOL...I'm officially changing it for my 67 to GPM.

I've got a 352 FE 3-speed and drove from Durant, OK to Decatur, TX...99 miles. I filled up in Durant and the tell-tell needle was sitting perfectly at 1/4 tank upon arrival in Decatur. Do the math....

But, then again, I didn't buy the truck for the fuel mileage...

I think mine would get less if I put a larger fuel line on it.

The reason it gets 10 and not less is that the line will only let that much fuel through...

Maybe if I put a smaller line on it, it would get better mileage. HMMMMMMMMMMM......

I plan on swapping a 1989 5.0 efi engine and a 700r4(that's right) trans in my 1972 f250.
Let's see what happens.

my 70 4x4 with a bone stock 360, 4 speed 3.50 gears in the rear gets 14 mpg. I know how far I drive to work all week and top it off every week and do the math.
