'66 F100 help identify tranny

My neaghbor and I drove across town to investigate a '66 that supposedly ran well. In deed it did so I bought it. The tranny is supposed to be a NP235. It is a half ton truck and the tranny is not original to it. I have a 3/4 ton with a NP235 and reverse is to the right and back. This one shifts right and forward for reverse. What do I have? Steve

That sounds like the pattern for a T-98 (but I don't think they will fit a 66 engine) maybe it's a T18?

With the shift pattern as described, the T18 reverse is rt top; whereas, there's the NP435 with shift pattern where reverse is to the rt. bottom. Not familiar with the NP235, could be mistaken, believe the NP235 was available in later model Ford vehicles, am sure if mistaken member will bring it to my attn. ]

You guys are an encyclopedic phenomenon. A T-18 it certainly is by all comparisons to the link posted. Thank you! My 2's and 4's got mixed up. The tranny in my '65 is, of course, a New Process 435. I am quite happy with the new truck as far as the mechanics is concerned. The body is a mess but it runs fine and drives smooth and straight. Certainly a great source of parts for my other two rigs. Steve
