2 Barrel Teapot Carb Swap

I have a 1956 F600 (pic in sig) with a 272 or 292 engine. It has the teapot carberator on it and someone took out all of the govener linkage so the butterflys do not open all the way and it wont pull itself out of a wet paper bag. My question is, do they make a carb that will bolt up to my intake or am i stuck with trying to find all the missing parts for mine or changing the whole setup to include the intake.

If my memory is correct, the bolt pattern on that is the same as most non-Ford 2 barrels. A Carter BBD, Rochester 2G, Stromberg WW should fit. The bigger issue would be spark advance system, if you have the Holley Load-a-matic system, you are pretty much stuck with what you have. If you can put a spring on the end of the throttle shaft where the governor went to pull the butterflies open it will work. The governor system has one there inside the housing. Your throttle lever simply allows this spring to open the throttle, and either it pushes the throttle closed or the governor diaphram pulls it closed as needed. Good luck with it!

My distibutor has a regular vacuum advance on it but it has two other lines coming from the distributor housing that go to the vacuum diaphram for the govenor. Is that what you are talking about for the spark advance system.

No, you need to look inside and see if it has centrifugal advance. If the vacuum diaphram has a roughly 1/8" diameter rod going into the breaker plate and the breaker plate has two springs connecting eccentric posts, you have the load-a-matic. If, when you remove the rotor you have a hollow center shaft with a felt in it, you have a dual advance distributor and you are ok putting any carb that will fit on.

I guess I have some checking to do tonight, I hope I dont end up changing the distributor also, this is becoming a PITA. BTW, What does the distributor have to do with the carb working. I thought that type of stuff didnt start until the computer age on vehicles.

On your truck, probably quite a bit.

May I suggest that you read this: How does a Load O Matic Distributor Work?? I think it will go a long way toward answering your question.

So I fixed my carb by making a bracket to hook to the throttle shaft and hooking a spring up to it. Now it has some power. At least the non load-o-matic distributer is still available from the parts store so I can at a later time change that and the carburator out because I can't find the right rebuild kit for it and it leaks a little. When I say leaks I mean that the fuel still goes into the intake after the truck is turned off and floods it. But it will be fine for now or at least until I get my shop put up so I can rebuild my sons 1970 chevy pickup and will use the carb off of that on the dump truck and change out the distributer at the same time. But for now I can get all the dirt hauled in so the concrete can get poured. Thanks 85lebaront2 for the suggestion of using the spring.

You are very welcome. Try some of the obsolete Ford parts sources, it might cost a bit. Check the tube at the back where the fuel goes up into the needle and seat, it has 2 O-rings, one on each end. The other problem with these is the original needle and seat was steel needle and brass seat. If it hasn't been changed, they were very prone to leaking. Holley used to still make parts for them, but I just had a 65 Rambler Ambassador I took forever to get a kit for.

None of the carbs that were suggested fit on my intake. I ended up making my own carberator adaptor, and I must admit it turned out really good and works very well. At least now I can get parts for the carb that I replace the teapot with. One other added bonus is no more oil bath air cleaner.
