hey first time posting in a long time. my 2001 has a 2wd 4h 4l selector **** and lock out hubs. the hubs are warn hubs not the factory ones. now the problem is if i have the hubs set to free every time i hit a bump on the road the hubs try to engage and make a horrible growling noise if i have them set to lock theyu are fine. is there anyone who can give me a idea of what the problem is here. i just bought this truck this week and it started doing it on my way home and of course there is no warranty so any help would be greatly appreciated

 

They are not hard to work on. Take them off and all apart, clean and grease them, put back together and get back to us if you need to.

 

The inter needle bearing needs grease you have to remove the hub to get to it. my 2000 f250 did same thing.

 

well i tore the the hubs apart and cleaned them up and greased them drove it for 2 days and its back to trying to engage the hubs in the free position. there are still vacuum lines connected to the hubs does anyone think this may have anything to do with the problem or are they not important since the hubs have been changed.
