2007 f150

I currently own and drive a 1994 f250 4x4 (off road package) super cab long bed with a 460 big block automatic trans and a 3.55 rear end. Resently I went and looked at a 2007 F150 with the 5.4 triton supercab short box Fx4 package. It was fully loaded nice nice pickup and I fell in love..until I test drove it. It seemed gutless compaired to my old pickup, I understand it has a smaller engine, but it weighs only half as much. I've only done small mods to my pickup, headers strait pipes and cold air. But that was just to overcome the bigger tires and lift. Whats the best way to get power out of a 5.4 so I can do some research and see what it would cost.

You are talking about quite a number of years of "advanced" technology, and not to mention Government intervention to boot. The age difference between the truck you have, and the one you drove is quite large.
I have no idea how youre going to "beef up" the new one other than a "tuner" and some aftermarket mods(which I dont recommend).
At 52 Ive seen many vehicles "modded" to get more out of them only to decrease MPG/Performance,and ultimately reliability.
If you fell in love with the 07,and can accept the "difference" in performance,I doubt youll be dis-appointed in the long run.IF however you feel the need to do the mods,Id suggest you stick to what you have.
The idea of mods causes alot of controversy, and while 50% will say theyre all good, the other 50% will dis-agree.
My personal experience is that if you leave something OEM,and do regular maintenance,it will last you a lifetime...deviate from that and eventually suffer the consequences.Unless you plan to keep the present truck forever, you will eventually have to upgrade...so the real question here is...Is now the time?

2 things to think of.....

1. The new truck isn't half the weight of your old truck.....a loaded FX4 should weigh in around 6000 lbs.....I'd bet your old truck weighs in around 7000 lbs....

2. The new truck may seem gutless if your going by just a seat of the pants feel....because it has an amazingly flat torque curve....it pulls very well from dead stop to 80+.....if you want to wake up a bit more power....buy a tuner

you also have to account for the adaptive tranny shifting.

if the prior owner drove it like a little old lady, it will be a plodding dinosaur

unplug the battery for 30 minutes and try again. whole different animal. the PCM will record how you drive and change shift patterns accordingly

I have a 2006 FX4 with 373.0 gears and i'm turning 35 inch tires and i pull a 30 ft toy hauler with 2 big quads in it. and i pull a 17 ft car trailer a lot of times... I did the local truck pull as i always do at our fair and i took 8'th place out of 18 trucks.. here go here to see..http://www.ok4wd.com/truckpull09.pdf I had the smallest motor and i still placed in the top 10.. What makes me happy and numbers do not lie is that the 2009 V 10 with 574 miles on it only pulled it 208 ft... So wiyh a little mods this is a very good truck... I' m a beliver in after market mods.

i use to own a 95 4x4 (close to stock) and a 93 lightning (that was heavly modded...)
both where alot more ballzy on the bottom (exp. the lightning!).
i recently bought a 2007 FX4 scab
i miss both of them very much but the 07 is really nice to ride in.
its smooth and relaxing. as for power i think that is whats missing the most from my truck. i bought an edge and it made the truck alot more fun to drive with harder shifts and a harder launch but it still dont feel like the loud grunting power of my 351W's

dont buy this truck if thats what you care about ... power...
i love power and speed. i race drags, circle track, and i race dirt bikes so my sence of power and speed is slightly jaded so this is just My Humble Opinion and i may be the only one who feels this way...

buy it for the millage increase you will gain. for the creature comforts it comes with. for the reliability of having a newer and more modern truck. dont get me wrong. it has power just on a different level.

the new 5.4 makes all the power it will ever make unless you go through great lengths to find it.

well, first of all you cant beat the torque feeling off the line in a 460. but im willing to bet the 07 is as fast 0 to 60 or faster. like he said with the technology of the tranmissions today its hard to feel the power. thats what they are after, a smooth ride all the way through the curve. if you want to get a little more of that old 460 snap, test drive a new f150 with 4.10 gears.
