66 Ford F100 352 exhaust manifold

On my 352 engine the exhaust manifold is leaking. It has a Manifold gasket on it now. It does not have the heat shield. I know the 352 engine did not have a Manifold gasket, but had a heat shield. Ques. is, if I install a new gasket,do I also install a heat shield? Will that heat shield defeat the gasket?

Thanks

I guess you're talking about a treated paper gasket. If you treat the gasket with copper seal (spray can at advance auto and I would guess others) it will help with the heat issues, but a straight copper gasket (or other all metal gasket) is the best option. If you use one of these I doubt it will matter what you are running for a heat shield.

1961/72 FE Heat Shields

The original FoMoCo heat shields were stainless steel.

Besides acting as manifold gaskets, they were also installed to keep heat radiating off the manifolds from affecting the spark plugs and wires.

The shields are right/left specific. The following fit 1961/72 FE engines.

C1SZ9448F .. Heat Shield - Right / Obsolete

CARPENTER OBSOLETE PARTS in Concord NC has FOUR = 704-786-8139.

GREEN SALES CO. in Cincinnati OH has ONE = 800-543-4959.

JST AUTOMOTIVE in Lebanon TN has ONE = 615-443-3086.

PLEASANTVILLE FORD in Pleasant NY has ONE.

B. F. WHITE MOTOR CO. in Stanton TX has ONE.
-----------------------------------------------
C1SZ9448E .. Heat Shield - Left / Obsolete

CARPENTER OBSOLETE PARTS has EIGHT.

MILLER OBSOLETE PARTS in Binghamton NY has THREE = 800-546-7278.

GREEN SALES CO. has TWO.

KINSEL L/M in Beaumont TX has TWO = 800-816-2894.

JST AUTOMOTIVE has ONE.

You can prolly buy these at autoparts stores, but will they be stainless steel?

But can I use the heat shield and the manifold gasket together? Tha gasket has a treated side ( face's the head) and a metal side (face's the manifold side). Would the heat shield go on the block side or the manifold side?,if I used them together? I have a manifold gasket on my truck now that is leaking, and it does not have a heat shield on it, and I think they left off the shield, because it would have defeated the gasket. I bought a new heat shield and a gasket, but I'm thinking I cannot use them together.

Thanks

The heat shield goes on first.

My truck has had both the heat shields and (Victor) exhaust manifold gaskets on it since 1982...never had a problemo.

I use the heat shield only on my 64 Galaxie's 428, it always had a leaking problem with gaskets, so I switched to the shields about 10 years ago. No more leaking.

Thanks for that advice, I just replaced the gaskets and installed new heat shields. The truck didn't have heat shields, just gaskets only. Number told me to install heat shields and gaskets and that work fine, I want to thank everyone on this forum for their advice and help, everything they told me worked.
