chrome plating questions

I know there is a difference in "commercial" grade chrome plating and "professional" or "show" grade plating. My question is... can commercial grade plating be polished up to show grade and how much of a hassle/job is it. I have access to the commercial grade work and I could get some suspension parts plated really cheap.. but can it be made to look like show chrome ???

thanks

john

chrome plating questions

hello.
In a nutshell, no.

What makes show chrome is how the item was prepped prior to, and including during the plating process. Your buffing and polishing after the chromate is applied is actually destructive to the chrome.

do you know what method they use to plate the "commercial grade" plating that you have access to? I ask, because if they triple plate, you may be able to do alot of the prep work, and end up with a very nice plating job (if you are willing to do alot of prep work yourself)

let me know, I havent been on the site for awhile, but I will be glad to help. just pm if I dont get back fast enough.

Drew.
