4 doors were only f350s in 80-86/ Maybe a light duty f250 axle was swapped in somewhere in its life

Grandpa's 81 Bronco

This is my 81 Bronco. My grandpa bought this new in Alabama the year I was born. I towed it from there to my house here in Washington back in march. I ditched the t170 crap 4 speed and put a AOD in it. It also has a 470 truck avenger carb and a offenhauser intake. There is still lots of work to go but this is a start. Hope you don't mind if its a Bronco pic not a truck.

Matt

I special ordered mine in 1985, I had to wait 3 long months before I got it. 460 C6 XL package 3.55 factory engine and trans oil coolers, purrs like a kitten @ 121 K. BTW, read the plate!

FWIW, I went through two AOD's in probably 40,000 miles in my Bronco when I put 33" tires on it. If you didn't Beef up that AOD or Lower the gearing in your Diffs you could be looking at trouble.

I plan to make it pretty. I want to put it back to perfect but not so nice I am afraid to drive it. I want to go efi and make it dependable enough to drive everyday. For now the AOD is stock. but a deep pan and 2000 stall will make it a little easier on the trans. I have run a AOD in a 70 cyclone with a 351 Cleveland that I ran hard and it held up but i had it built up. What kind of problems did you have with your AOD. It will help me fix things before it happens. I hope with the cooler temp here in Washington the heat won't be as much of a problem as it was when I lived in Texas.
