Picture of a 302 with alt right/PS pump left
Does anyone have a front view picture of a 289/302/351/400 engine with an alternator mounted on the passenger side and a power steering pump mounted on the driver's? I'm trying to fabricate brackets to use a GM one wire and a Chrysler power steering pump on an 85 302 with a V-belt system. Need some ideas.

That bracket coming off the water pump looks like what I may need. What year is your Mustang? Also, I wondered if I needed a dual grooved water pump pulley as this engine has only a single like your Mustang. The alternator was mounted on the driver's side when I got it but I have to add a PS pump for the Volare box and that has to go on that side so I have to move the alt to the other side...

My 302 looks just like Luddle,s. It is also a 1970 but not sure what it came off of.The pump on mine is off a 68 mustang i bought at a swap meet in Columbus. Paid $20.00 for the pump and all the brackets. It has the small filler tube but uses the same bracket. I also have the same GM alternator. I did have to buy a two groove pulley off ebay.

Those are standard mounting positions for a 302. Brackets are often interchangeable with these between years (I have a '71 and for the p/s pump either a pre or post 70's pump fits fine). You can fab up your own alt brackets fairly easily if thats the way you want to go or you can get fairly cheap ones pretty easily.

Vern, I have a 351W with A/C. Water pump pulley has a one groove pulley and the crank has a three groove pulley. 1st groove is for P/S which runs over W/P, 2nd pulley goes to alt and third groove is for A/C which runs over crank, A/C adjuster and A/C pulley. It says I can't post attachment so I guess that means pictures but the first two are just like Luddle's picture

My truck d.d. is an 83 f-150 with 302. the brackets are as you describe and will use the newer style ps pump. The alt mounts lower on the motor. Sometimes it helps because of space in the engine compartment. I am not sure what you are driving. Maybe it will help. It will also let you run a newer a/c compressor. They do have these with non a/c also. It is v-belt and not serpentine.
The alt is on the passengers side.
The power steering is under the a/c on the drivers side.
