Ecoboost

The Taurus SHO has the ecoboost. 365hp @ 5000 rpm and 350 ft/lbs of torque. MPG = 17 city/25 highway with premium fuel.
I am looking forward to seeing one in a F150. Wonder when it's coming and what the mpg might be? If the mpg isn't at least 2 or 3 more than normal it will not be worth the extra reported $1000 for the engine.

Running premium all the time would suck too.

The Ecoboost is marketed as the engine that gets V6 mpgs with V8 power. If I recal correctly the V6 in the older trucks only got ~1mpg better than the V8. Going by this method of thinking the Ecoboost will most likely get 1 maybe 2mpg better than the V8 trucks.

i am guessing 22-23 mpg tops in a truck since the 4.6 can get 21.

It's been projected that it will get about 20% better than the V8 equipped trucks

Its not that bad, ive had to run it for 100k miles on our spercharged f150.

But wouldnt this ecobost be great for the pickups? it has more power than the 5.4 and ecoboost has a torque shelf not a curve. you get the same twist from what 2500??? to redline. I am a huge fan of it. I would expect to see it along the same time the 5.0 hits the f150. Just my .02 cents

To get the hp and torque max ratings you have to run the premium- but it's not required

1. Taurus weighs roughly 4,000 lbs give or take some for options installed.

2. F-150 starts at 4,500 lbs and gets heavier by trim/cab selection

so if a Taurus can only get 17/25 mpgs...why would a truck get any better than the current 4.6 3v? or even close?

weight alone is going to drive those MPG's to 15 city (maybe) and about 21-22 highway.

add in the Ecoboost price premium to purchase...yeah, not a viable option. We'll see though.

I can't see the point of it in an F150. I have seen videos of the car version and its pretty impressive.

MPG equal to 4.6 will be fine given it will destroy 4.6L in every performance measure.
