Another Newbie looking for a truck!!!!

I am new to this site, and have been looking for a 1953-1956 Ford F100 for awhile.

I came across this 1954 and am going to check it out this week. Owner has title. Complete minus bed and seat. Original v8 motor/trans-so the owner says. minor surface rust and no cancer--so the owner says. I have read some post concerning the common places to check for rust--thanks for the posts!

How can I tell if this is a f100 or f250?

No bed. I read that the beds are the same from 53-70's. Am I correct? What exact years?

No seat. What years offer the same seat?

He is selling this for $1500. Does this sound fair? I know that opinions may vary.

Here is a picture of the truck. When I go out this week, I will get more detailed photos.

Thanks
Duke

The owner says that as far as he knows the engine and trans are original. He said that he had it running about 2-3 years ago using an external fuel jug. I am going to check it out this week. I will try and get as much information and pictures as I can.

I have another 54 lined up that has a bed that is in good condition. He wants $500.00. I thought for the bed and the seat that this one is missing, it would be a good buy. (considering the condition of course).

I really appreciate all the help and advise that you guys offer. I am planning on learning on this project and will gladly soak up all the experience here.

Couple differences between the F100 and F250 you should be able to easily check. F250 has a longer wheelbase (110" vs 118"). According to the 54-55 shop manual the F100 should have an integral housing rear axle (assuming the PO has not swapped it out). And from recent personnel experience the rear spring width is wider on the F250 (2.0" vs 2.25" also confirmed by the shop manual) and the easiest for you to measure without the bed.

another quick way to tell F-100 from F-250 would be the wheels. F-100 would be 5 bolt, F-250 would be 8 bolt wheels

That truck does not look bad, if thats fresh primer i would wonder what its hiding though?
Here is a decent looking 56 project truck, looks complete for less money.

Where are you located?
Oh and don't rush into the first truck you find like I did. I have purchased three trucks now to come up with enough usable parts for the one I started with. lol They are out there- just keep your eyes out.

good luck in your search and Welcome to the FTE.

Josh

on second thought after looking again at those pictures it looks pretty good, just will need to find a bed etc for it.

Ha, Jon points out a perfect case of the obvious. And a classic example of how I think and make things harder than they need to be. Welcome to FTE.

I got a chance to check out the 54 that I posted the pictures on.

Turns out it is a F250.

Rust in floor boards (pretty bad), rust in corners or cab, fenders looked ok.

Engine complete and turned over freely.

Outside body is pretty straight with the exception of a couple small dents.

Both door glass are cracked.

The owner said that he sanded down the surface rust and sprayed it with primer a couple years ago.

I don't think that this is one I am willing to tackle for that price.

I am in Spokane WA--Pacific Northwest.

Thanks again.
