Towing - 5.4 vs Hemi vs Chevy 6.0 - all with 4.10s

I drove an '05 Chevrolet 2500HD ExCab 4x4 6.0 w/full utility boxes for a summer...
truck alone crossed the scales at 8,200#. It was the first truck I pulled that prowler pictured above with, and to be honest, I liked the way it towed a whole lot better. Hated that it had an automatic, and that I didn't own it. Bought the Ford because I needed a truck that would pull 10K# that I could afford.

what closet?
I was just saying that, having towed the exact same trailer with both, I preferred the GM 6.0...
however! Some of that may have been in the extra weight from the utility boxes... Those things made the truck and trailer nearly weigh the same.
Never towed that trailer with anything larger...
i have towed a heavier trailer (~25' Dovetail) with both an '05 3500 Silverado w/duramax, and an '05 F550 PSD to be honest, the only thing one had over the other was the brake controller... not trying to bring diesels into it, just expanding on comparable towing experiences between the two...
...never towed with a dodge... don't plan to.

Look at the performance specs on the 6.0l/allison combo in the 2500 and 3500 chevys and you'll see it will tow good and perform good empty. The fact that the Chevys are light and have tiny tires helps in the acceleration. The Duramax is no slouch either, lots of performance mods for the duramax and it will outpower all the PSDs and get better mpg doing it too.
In the one issue of dieselpower I have they did a shootout on a bunch of the modded diesel trucks.(3 makes, wide year range, cummins, duramaxs and PSDs) The truck that won the competition had the most power and got the best fuel mileage (23mpg if I remember correct) It was a Duramax with the exhaust coming out a tiny 4" single stack too. (All trucks were 06' or older)

I drive a 06 16' Chevy 3500 box truck on the van chassis with a 6.0L at work. When its loaded it does pretty well. Empty tho, I think it could do much better. My 99 V10 isn't even phased by using the A/C but that 6.0L seems to have to try alot harder to work with the A/C on. I can't provide a comparison to the 5.4L cuz I've never driven one.

My 5.4 powered Expedition is a VERY refined ride, tows the 8K TT good enough, not great. Power is there but the Expy chassis gets pushed around.
I had a '01 Silverado 2500HD 8.1 gasser. Almost 200K on it. Good truck. Did not like anything more than 10K.
I had a '05 Silverado 3500HD 6.6 Duramax. Almost 150K on it. Truck was a POS. Engine/Tranny ok, rough, loud, but ok. Did not mind 15K behind it but the front suspension wore out twice.
I have a '08 F250 6.4 PSD. Outperforms the Silverado's. Every category except turbo lag. My 250 laughs at 15K. All I really need now is bigger brakes.
