When I first got this truck it always took 7 quarts to change the oil. Well after 2 rebuilds and 200,000 miles I somewhere along the way changed oil pans and dip sticks. I'm told all these trucks took only 5 quarts with filter. Anyone know for sure?

Bear, my 78 351M holds 6 qts. with filter. It should be the same as your 400M. Don

I agree but the Chilton's book I have doesn't show any options other than 5 with filter. I'd like to run the most I can but am wary of frothing it up with the crank shaft.
