Front brake help

I just bought a 1951 F5. All I really bought it for was the front axle and cab. Im bulding a custom frame and want to use the I beam axle. But the problem I have is getting rid of the big brakes and monster 20'' wheels. My question is will the 1\2 ton spindles and king pins work on the F5 axle? Or will the 1\2 ton drums and hardware bolt up to the F5 spindles? If anybody has any ideas please let me know......

Welcome to FTE! If memory serves, the F-1, F-2, and F-3's shared the same front axle and spindles. The proper hubs and brakes were installed according to what kind of truck it was under. The F-4's and larger had different much larger axles. None of the F-1 parts are going to look anything at all like what you've got and won't get even close to fitting. Where are you located? I've got an F-1 axle, spindles, and hubs that I'd love to get out of my barn.

i cant remember , but i had an f-4 i was going to do some creative reengineering with , to put later model one ton drums on for easier parts availability , and bill aka number dummy gave me some info on the axles along with the info julie gave you . i think the biggest issue was / is the king pin diameter and maybe the length of them compared to others of the same era . it'd be a whole lot easier to just find a 1/2 ton axle , and / or go to an ifs setup unless like i and some others on here you like beating your head against the wall in order to prove that which is said to not be able to be accomplished can ............................................

i have a 50 merc m-68.i just changed the front with a 53 f-1.the axle was 3 inch wider on the 53as well as the spring perches.the king pins measured the same on the outside,so i thought i could just pop the pins and swap the spindles.the 53 king pins were about 1/8 of a inch bigger than my 1 ton.after about 6 hrs of shaking my head it ended up all i had to do was change the backing plates and put the 53 hubs on,run some 3/16 brake lines from the master with a reducer fitting in the master, bleed the system and how i have better brakes on the front and the 5 bolt for 15 inch wheels.i have not road tested it as yet,but so far it all seems to be good to go.
ok,i dont know if this helps with the f-5,but this looks like it is going to work for me.
