I just re-sealed my transmission and put 80/90 oil in it. Now it grinds when I shift from 3rd down to 2nd. How can I find out what exact transmission I have and what oil it takes?
I used to have an '88 F-150 with the 5.0 and 5-speed, and it had the Mazda transmission, and if I remember correctly, it used Mercon transmission fluid in the transmission and transfer case. If you get a Haynes manual, it will tell you for sure. I will look it up if I get a chance here soon.
It seems it takes Mercon-compatible ATF (even thought it's a manual??), 7.6pts. So I went ahead and bought Mobil 1 synthetic ATF.
Do you think that's a good choice?
