2004/2005 Engine swap/now wont crank an PATS light is not flashing
Put a 2005 engine into my 2004 Ranger all plugs matched up (do not ask me my opinion of Haynes!!).
Charged battery / all lights work on dash / turn key an won't crank / pulled inspection cover on trans an rotated (not jammed).
Has the PATS flashing light before swap--NOW no flashing light.
Help!

I can only hope its that simple. Only truck is inherited an wifes father is not around to tell me where the 2nd key went to. Disconnected battery for 23 minutes an while disconnected I unplugged all main connectors an put them back on. All salvage yard guy says is "book says 2004--2006 fit on 2004.

If you have a key that is known to have started this truck, then I believe you have other issues. Make sure clutch switch or neutral start switch is working. Make sure starter will work by bypassing the solenoid. PATS modules can go bad but it is pretty rare. I would definitely do some circuit checking / tracing before I run it to the stealership.

Yes I do
If you read the entire thread. I replaced a 2004 engine in my truck with a 2005 engine from salvage yard. (2004--thru--2006 will swap per salvage yard book) Wireing harness on new engine plugged up exactly. The dealer who has my truck says they can reprogram PCU etc. It locked up a locksmith with program box couldn't access PATS to work with key codes. We will just have to see what dealer does Monday. They say they can reprogram it.

I have read the entire thread. What I am trying to understand is why was programming necessary? Did you lose the key or something? I had to have missed something because heres what I got from the thread:
---Truck was running and engine blew. Had no issues other than engine failure. Replaced engine and now the truck wont crank and somehow the pats computer needs
programming.
Am I missing something? I have to be because installing a used engine has absolutely nothing to do with the pats system and the truck needing programming. The system wont just lose key codes either. Either the harness is different or you hooked something up incorrectly/left something unplugged.

So yep the harness is probably different since all those plugs only hook up one way. If after several hundred dollars the dealer who said they could do it can't find the problem then I tow it home, swap harness (Thou how it'll come out between engine an firewall is another question) an then we'll see what happens.
