Do you guys cast the heads there also? Did you guys cast the blocks for the modulars have been made at the windsor plant? I know Ford has done some juggling lately.
I'm shure 5w-40 will flow fine thru a new engine at room temp. Let the motor sit in subzero weather overnight and start it in the morning with 5w-40. See how its does after 150k+ miles on the thick stuff and the motor builds up some deposits. The head passages are also very important also as the cams ride right on the aluminum.
Yes we cast all of the gray iron blocks. No we do not cast heads here any more. Unfortunatly they are aluminum and cast in Mexico by a co named Nemak.
Yes the oil will flow at room temp and also at -30 as it is a 5 weight oil it only picks up the traits of a 40 weight as it gets hotter.
Remember we make a 750 to a 1000 engines a shift, oil is brought in in tankers (Castrol by the way) as assembly plants call for engines some go over seas some are domestic some are for 150s others are for 250s and up, some go to Austraila for the Falcon ,some go to Africa for stationary punps and generators. Everything gets cold tested with 5 w 20 as it exits the assembly plant.
I am not saying your wrong, use what you feel is right for you. Oil today is light years ahead of the stuff of only 10 years ago.
No worries. I tried looking for oil weight specs for different countries for the modulars without much luck. The modular market is obviously the strongest in north america.
Do you do all the machining work there also? Sucks the heads are mexican made. I guess they go where electric and labor is cheap because aluminum takes a lot of juice to get molten.
Very intresting posts. I have alot of family that retires or still works at the walton hills plant... I deliver alot to your plant... The days of Roadway express ect..
I have a few questions ,maybe you can answer. In on of your posts you mention trucks bringing in oil (castrol) that being said, WHy not motorcraft??? the test results are very different between Castrol and Motorcraft, so they arent the same. WHy??? That popped into my mind whuile reading, maybe you dont know the answere maybe you do.

You know come to think of it I don't know. Never really thought about it. I know our plants have a contract with Castrol for all oil, Hyd. mach.grease and lubeoil and I do the oil analysis thru Castrol. Good question!
Are you guys running straight dino in the engines for break in? That may explain why you use castrol instead of MC blend oil because last I believe MC blend is made by conoco phillips in the US.
