scrap metal prices

My dad is getting rid of a bunch of his car junk *mostly government motors product* and some of it he's letting go saying he'll take scrap metal price for it. My question is what are the scrap metal prices in your area. I haven't had a chance to call here and see what they'd pay for a cast iron block yet but I'm just curious to see how our rates compare with anyone elses. That, and I'm trying to get my BF a good price on his new project.

When I took my little load of junk in, steel/iron/mixed was 1 cent per lb. (Los Angeles)

This site quotes rates, looks like .21-.43 lb, keep in mind this is by the truckload or rail car or cargo ship, I can't tell, but it's not for a bag of tin cans:

It also depends on the yard.. I got 200 a ton for cast a few weeks ago, and had to take it 35 miles away, while the one right here 1 mile away was around 80 a ton... cars are anywhere from 40 to 60 a ton here.

If you got alot of scrap, I would get rid of it now. Because once all these vehicles under the wonderful Cash for Clunkers starts hitting the scrap yards, I'll be the price will fall.

Watch it tank as all the C4C hulks hit the limit and get cubed or shredded.
