Towing Capacity of 4 x 4 EL?

My 2007 EL did not come with the towing pkg, however in looking over the specs I see the 4 x 4 EL comes with the 3.73 ratio rear end, the rear air adds the oversize 23+ quart radiator and it has a factory tranmsission cooler.

Obviously the welded hitches are the same. I have added the 7 pin plug.

What is the difference now between mine and the towing option? could the tranmission cooler be larger? Is the towing radiator larger than 23 quarts?

I will be towing 7,000# max but it will be in Mountains.

What suggestions would you have for me? Is there a drain plug in the 6 speed that can be replaced with a tranmission temp sensor?

Should I add an aftermarket H/D tranny cooler with a Fan? I see they are fairly inexpensive.

Many Thanks!

first you might want to start with the tranny cooler I know the HD tow package has a larger one also make sure you have a good brake controller we learned the hard way stopping everything is more important than getting it all going and finally if you are still worried look at chuck s posting for the OBD II gauge that plugs right in and can tell you tranny temps along with all sorts of good info and you should be set.

Suggestions for Transmission coolers?

What are some suggestions for aftermarket Transmissions Coolers for 2007 Expedtions?

Is there one with a fan and a temp gauge built in that someone has had good results with?

Thanks!

As near as I can tell the HD radiator is only 0.6 quarts bigger.
Engine coolant (Base
radiator with aux rear
heat)
23.2 quarts
(22.0L)
Engine coolant
(Heavy-duty trailer tow
radiator with aux rear
heat)
23.8 quarts
(22.5L
The HD transmission radiator may just "drop in."

But you may want to just monitor the trans oil and engine coolant temperatures with an ODB2 gage. Just plugs in under the dashboard.
