What does your Ex's registration say she weighs? Inspection problems again!

Just curious what your registration/title says your truck weighs vs. the placard's info.

My reggie says 7069 or something and I can't read my placard anymore...must have washed off the ink..lol

I'm having a hell of a time inspecting it in NY because the inspection process calls for a pure OBD II inspection where the pass fail is determined to what the computer says.....mine always says O2 sensor not ready or some malarchy, despite the check engine light never going on and her running perfect. Ironically it also passes the +8500lb dyno inspection with the sniffer, but apparently according to the dealer, it's fudging the numbers to make it work on the big truck sniffer. The dealer is going to research the proper procedure to get her inspected....but I think the problem is mainly the registration being wrong.

Anyone dealt with this?

I researched and found plenty of info on the inspection deal.....still wondering on the weights of your trucks...it'd be cool to have the registered weight vs the placard weight vs the actual weight...

I am in NY also. I got mine inspected on Thursday. My guy picks option 2 (8500-12000 lbs or something like that). I guess these things are not considered cars. The EPA doesn't even rate them as cars. Anyway, he always does it like that and he has never had a problem.

I hear ya...the service manager said he'd do it but he just wants to get an official OK from DMV....I could care less, heck I'd photoshop a new one if they weren't so smart(?) in Albany.

I have run in to this issue since I have bought the X. In PA, the X is registered as STATION WAGON, not a truck. Then you have to enter the gvw as 8900 for v10 gas. diesels are 9200. then it runs a 2speed idle test. not the obd2 test. Since the gvw is 8900, the obd2 will never show that the sensors are ready. It also has no registration weight on the windshield.

I live in East Tennessee and where I live we don't have to go through that crap. I buy just regular car tags for my Excursion. They want the 60.00 tag fee so bad you could buy a plates for a horse if you wanted to title it and pay the fee almost.

Same here in WI if the vehicle is more than 50% passenger space its considered a passenger car. So my EX has car plates. So does my F-350 dually ambulance.

Here in IL since my GVWR is over 8500 lbs they just did the sniffer test. All normal cars have to pass the OBDII computer scan.

Can only relay information from my own state and experience.

North Carolina, normal tags (not weighted tags), no emmissions test.

You can not get registration/tags renewed without inspection. And now NC is stickerless. No more inspection tags on the window.

Hope you get your situation straightened out.

In GA, over 8500 lbs. GVW there is no emissions test. We actually tried once but as soon as the operator punched in the V.I.N., the system rejected the vehicle from testing. We had a bit of a problem when we first registered it but since then the folks at the tag office know all about it and it goes right through. The only hiccup is that we cannot renew online, actually have to mail the registration or take it directly to the local office.

Having once been a licensed emissions inspector in NY, I speculate that the Ex is probably registered in the State as a passenger car which gets registered by its unladen (empty) weight. Federal emissions regulations consider it a truck which gets tested based on its maximum gross weight which is over 8500 lbs. It's a little bit of a disconnect between State and Federal law which happens all over and (AFAIK) only applies to the Ex and the H2 (for some unknown reason).

Mine is registered as a car. It's weight is 9200lbs. Because it's diesel, it's emissions exempt, they don't hook the sniffer up. It's purely safety inspection, turn signals, brakes, horn, wipers, etc. I'm glad I don't have to deal with emissions and a gasser, I could imagine headaches stacking up pretty quickly if something goes wrong.

Yep same here! the emissions are different for the 8600lb GVWR vs. the 8900lb GVWR. the 8600lb emmissions reads missfires and O2 sensors as if it were a car/light truck. the over 8600lb emissions don`t read misfires and I believe it also reads the O2`s differently. the reason being the idea is that the HD emissions are expected to be worked hard and thus the perameters are less strigent.

There you go, clear as mud!
