Fuel filter :1 Me:0 Frustrated!

Trying to change the fuel filter on my 2006. I have the little grey round plastic tool for removal and have read all the write ups on how to replace the fuel filter. On the front part of the filter I am unable to disconnect it with the tool, I push the tool into the fuel line away from the filter and it just won't unlock. Any suggestions?

I also have a 2006 mustang GT and this one came out with no problems, but it is much easier all you have to do is mash a button on the line and the filter releases.

put the 5/8" a/c disconnect tool onto the front edge

push it all the way up against the body of the filter...you should feel a slight "click" when the a/c tool unlatches the detents.

keep the a/c tool in place and firmly pull the fuel line away from the front of the fuel filter.

if the a/c tool moves at all, the detents will grab and the fuel line will not come loose.

it can be painful to get done, but it will work. just be very sure the a/c tool is firmly seated against the fuel filter

Also try searching this forum. A while back, another user, put together detailed instructions on chaning the filter.

if i remember correctly the 5/8" tool is red not gray. Probably using the incorrect size.

Mine's red and says 5/16...I just changed mine and my wifes last month with it. It's a little difficult, just keep working it and it will give.

I replaced mine on my '05. Huge pain in the ***. I'll probably have the dealer do it next time. Not sure if the '06 is the same set up but basically if you mess up that spider clip you gotta replace the entire fuel line from the filter to the motor. Thank you Ford for that engineering marvel.

You prob have a 3/8" line. Ford changed it sometime in 06. Most of the 06 and up have the 3/8 line. The tool is yellow. The red tool WILL damage the clip inside of a 3/8 line.

I must have got lucky i changed mine out in like 2-3 mins. I took at screw driver and popped up the orange clip in the connector on the tank side. Then slid my "grey" tool in the connector. I then pushed the tool and connecter together and then slid the other way. I used the Ampro T70045 fuel line disconnect tool from advance auto. Make sure u do this when the truck has no pressure on the line. I done mine first thing in the morning when the truck had been sitting all night
