I'm currently using Chevy 2500 w/6.0. Would like comment from anyone using 5.4 to pull 5k-6k loads on and off road.
If you are set on a F-250 go with the V10, what is it a $600 or $700 option. Very comparable fuel milage, maybe a little lower and you get 60 more horsepower and 92 lbft of torque. The V10 is a no brainer if you can find one, around here anyways it is hard to find one on the lot, everything is PSD.

I agree with archeat2. If you are going to get an F250, get the V-10. The 5.4L is just a tad underpowered for a SD truck. They weigh quite a bit more than an F150. The V-10 doesn't get that much less fuel mileage than a 5.4L in a SD. Or you can wait until Ford comes out with the 6.2L V-8 in a year or so.

Yup agree completely. Go with the V10 if you can find/order one. That being said several friends/family all have 5.4L SD's (reg cabs) and they work em hard on the farm. Haulling goosnecks and tractors all the time. It'll get the job done, it just doesnt have any bragging rights. You will have to work the motor a lot harder and if your pulling in the hills get used to rev'n it hard. I would always advise upgrading to 4.10 gears though, that will help the 5.4 out a little. However, upgrading from the 3.73 opn to 4:10 LS you might as well get the V10 too. the V10 option includes the 4:10LS and its only about $600 total, so really the motor upgrade is only around $300... thats dirt cheap! The average user only reports 1-2mpg less usually with the V10 unloaded, and loaded the same or potentialy better if it can hold OD more.

And next time you might want to post in the Super Duty section

thread deviated so much lol. But as for the comment of get the F150 because it's well within the towing range, I'd prolly second it. The SD is more of a truck, but a 5.4 f250 will feel gutless compared to a 5.4 F150, even a stick. I think this would be true even with 4.10s in the SD. Get the 3.73s if you get an F150 though, helps so much. Also, a good point about the SDs, you can still get a stick
