water in fuel light question

Well it sounds like the kanooder valve is sticking and you have to use the snookem tool to adjust and correct the play in the swazhanger. LMAO I'm just kidding......I haven't the slightest. I'm not sure why the transmission has anything to do with the WIF light. I'm sure Dave or the other guys will chime in.

nbtone,
Welcome to FTE and the IDI diesel forum.
My guess is you have an intermittent short in the wiring somewhere, and reverse is causing the correct engine movement to close the short.
I don't have any experience with an E series, so I can't suggest a place to look though.
I can say the wires will be in the engine harness and if the E series engine to chassis connections are close, it should plug into the chassis harness near the center of the passenger side head.

No I have't done anything to the wiring. I bought this truck last year, and I've replaced alot of stuff on it (shocks, brakes, injection pump, injection return lines, power steering box, power steering pump, solenoid pack in transmission, fan clutch, fixed radiator). The light comes on before the transmission shifts into reverse, so I think its something other than what's been suggested.
I tried to get the plug in connectors on the firewall apart this morning, but I couldn't figure out how to do it. They have a 10mm bolt in the middle, but if you loosen it the whole thing wants to come loose. I was going to try to spray some contact cleaner on them to see if that helped.

after shifting into reverse and continuing into drive does the light stay on? When you undo the bolt the whole plug should seperate, the bolt is the retainer for the plug so that it doesn't come loose and to ensure good connection. Don't overtighted and this will break the connector and you will be in a world of S**T
