power window problem - fuse blowing

I have a 2002 F150 Super Crew. Several months ago the 15A fuse that controls the power windows and dome light blew. I replaced it and everything worked fine for a couple of weeks. Then it blew in a day and now within a couple of hours. I hear a click when I install a new fuse and heard it again when it blew while lowering the windows. I've had it in the shop once and they supposedly checked out the wiring and couldn't find anything. I hate to take it to the dealer but may have to. Any ideas?

Thanks!

Which fuse exactly is blowing? What fuse box is it in?

Small 15A fuse in the inside fuse box under dash. It may be fuse #14, I'll have to check.

Thanks!

That is going to be a tough one to track down unless you can shed some more light on it. Is there anything electrical that you have changed on the truck? Has the truck been involved in any accidents? Basically the problem could be anywhere in the truck where lighting is located. Good luck!

I had the exact same symptoms. I disconnected and reconnected the window switch and the problem went away. Probably didn’t have anything to do with the switch, I don’t know maybe just moving the wires around moved it away from a ground.

If it happens again I will replace the switch. Everything has been fine for about two months.

Fuse #14 Issues

Have you tried isolating the issue by removing the interior lamp relay or battery saver relay (relays 1 and 2 respectively in the interior fuse box)?

From the chinsy wiring diagrams in my Chilton book, it appears that the relay power for all the ECMs (electronic control modules) in the fuse box come through Fuse #14. Which is why you are loosing power to everything else.

I am actually experiencing the same issue and have isolated it to the interior lamp relay side. As long as this relay is out (#1 - top most on the left side of the interior fuse box) the fuse doesn't poop. However, I have no dome light, courtesy lights or cargo light.

If you have been able to resolve please let me know - i'm curious to see what others have found.

Well, my problem is back same as yours Jasper99. Did you ever do anything to fix your problem. I will check the dome light today but since I am at the computer now I am trying to find other things to look for.

Any luck with trying to pull the relays to isolate the issue to the battery saver side or interior light relay side? Since these are the first two items after the fuse in this circuit this is a pretty good place to start.

I am having an issue where this fuse (#14) keeps blowing because of a short on the interior relay side which I have isolated to an issue with the courtesy light in the passenger door.
