I've heard it, but still don't believe it. It's just highly refined oil. Why bother ? In the OLD days (like when grandpa's put non-detergent 30W in their 46 flathead Ford's) oil didn't have all the detergents and additives like they do now. Motors put out 90 HP and spun @3000 RPM with 216 cubic inches. Nowadays 100 HP per liter with 4 valves per cylinder and DOHC cams is the norm, and Marvel Mystery oil will hurt your high strung, highly tuned, computer controlled engine. Don't do it, unless you're driving a 46 Ford w/a 216 HP flat head V-8.

Incorrect. It similar in properties to transmission fluid and its mixed with wintergreen oil, amoung other things. Transmission fluid, due to its acidic nature, keeps oil deposits from building up. Take a look at the inside of an automatic transmission, it has to get pretty bad for build up to occur. Secondly, if you ever get some pure winter green oil, take about 1 drop, mix it with a touch of water and work it through your hands. In about 1 minute you'll have no skin oil left and your hands will be as dried and cracked as a rattle snake skin the next day.
In short, it does work. It is not a miracle cure like some things claim to be and its the only product I know of that has stood the test of decades of time. It's detergent properties can be demonstrated quite easily in engines with hydraulic lifters that are stuck, and freeing up rings on blocks that have sat around for a long time without starting.
My personal feeling is that a quart is too much and I wouldn't ride with it all the time, especially since modern oils don't gunk up as much. I generally pour in a half quart and run it for an hour prior to changing the oil and then let it drain with the oil. I also occasionally (every 10K) put a half quart in the gas tank and it cleans the injectors.
Don't let the funny name throw you off, it was named after its use in for the Marvel carburator.
