03 5.4L oil leak

Hi all,

I've been reading about the passenger side oil leak (located at the transmission & engine bolt connection). I have an 2003 with 66k and just noticed a small leak. So the question is does the "infamous passenger side Head gasket leak" apply to the 2003 5.4L's or just the 1999 5.4L's, should I be looking else where for the leak?

Thanks in advance for any comments,

Lou

I would give it a real good onceover just to be sure it wasn't leaking from somewhere else. Then try to tackle the head gasket leak if that is where it's coming form.

I'm going to try and degrease it within the next couple of days and watch for the leak, I'm a quart of oil low but it's been time for an oil change now (4K miles/4 months). I'm hoping it's the valve cover and not the head gasket. If it were the head gasket wouldn't there be antifreeze in the oil? No signs of that...

Thanks for the reply Frank

Yeah, when oil mixes with the coolant it becomes milky white. If it's not then I doubt you have a blown head gasket. Degrease it and try a tighten down the valve cover, but don't over tighten. Turn until it stops and give a little pressure on the last turn, you don't want to break them.

Oh and you also don't want the gasket peaking out form under the valve cover.

Good idea, I'll check the cover and tighten it down just a bit.

Thanks,
