Engine Stalls --- 91 Ford Explorer EB HELP!

When first starting out driving our 91 Ford Explorer (eddie bauer edition), and the first stop sign or two we come to the truck sputters and spits, drops rpms and acts as tho it wants to stall, pushing the gas prevents this, however sometimes it actually DOES stall requiring us to turn it off put it in park/neutral and restart it again. For City driving, it makes things quite complicated!!! After the truck is warmed up a bit it doesn't have this problem (warmed up as in it has been drivin for about 10miles or 15 or so minutes).

What could be the cause of this problem? Condensation in the fuel system? Bad/Dirty Fuel injectors? Bad Fuel filter?

Any suggestions would be appreciated and anyone with this problem who has had this fixed We'd love to hear from you on what the causes were and about how much it cost to fix! We just replaced the Transmission so we're not really happy about spending another 2400.00 on something else!!

Thanks!

Engine Stalls --- 91 Ford Explorer EB HELP!

Often times idling problems can be traced to the air bypass valve . Carbon causes them to stick & not allow the engine to get enough air when the throttle plates are closed . If it has never been cleaned then thats the likely cause of the problem . Remove it , clean it up & reinstall .

There is a thread & a photo of an air bypass valve in the 80 - 96 Forum ... I believe its titled :Is this an Air Bypass Valve.

Yes bypass valve. I had the same issue and need to replace it on my 03 Sport Trac. Common problem. The rubber elbow started to discintergrate. I will try to get a pic for you from my config, however, it most likley will not be the same but will give you an idea.
