Diesel Fumes In Cab When A/C Is On Fresh Air

Just wondering if any of you had a good idea on where diesel fumes could be coming from. I can smell it a little bit outside the truck but what really gets my attention is the smell inside the cab when the A/C is on the fresh air setting.

My truck is an 07 with 84,000+ miles on it. Never smelled diesel like this before. Also, to be clear this is the smell of fuel, not exhaust.

Am planning on taking the truck in but am worried that if there is not an obvious leak, that the techs will not have a clue.

Also, my truck randomly pukes coolant. Took it in about 6 months ago for that. They really didn't do anything. Puked coolant again two days later but nothing else for about 4 months. Could the puking coolant (which I believe is a blown head gasket) be related to the fumes in the cab?

looks like you might have fuel leak somwhere. and they can preasure test your fuel system to see if you have leaks. puking might be related to HG or to much coolant.
but since you took the truck in before they should have adjust the level.
so EGR coolre problem or blown HG

Definately check for a fuel leak!

(recently change fuel filter?)

Had a diesel exhaust problem in the cab on my old 7.3. It was a failure of the dougnut gasket on the turbo pedestal.

more like up pipes donuts... and they are in the back of the turbo, not attached to the pedestal. and 6.0 does not use the same type of uppipes like 7.3 no more donuts......anyways just trying to explain the diferences.

Sounds like the symptoms of an exhaust leak in the places you can barely fit your hands in to get to.

I change my fuel filters every 15,000 like your are suppose to.

In my profile is a picture of what I just found under the hood. Has anyone seen this before? Think it is connected to the fuel smell? What about the random coolant blowing? I will be going to the dealer tomorrow.

Yep, you have a fuel leak somewhere. Mine did the same thing after I installed a fuel pressure gauge and the fitting was not tight enough. You should be able to see diesel on the engine somewhere from underneath...

I'm having the same issue. What ever came of this?

That was awhile ago. But if I remember right, I did have a small coolant leak as well as a plug or gasket or something that needed to be replaced (which is where the diesel fumes where coming from).

My experience has been that if you have coolant blowing out of your degas bottle, you have blown head gaskets. I had blown head gaskets and had them replaced under warranty around 80,000 miles. Now at 127,000 and so far, no signs of coolant.....but I feel that it is just a matter of time. Both my 04 and 07 starting puking coolant around 60,000 miles. So since I had mine replaced around 80,000, I won't be surprised if I start seeting coolant when I near 140,000 miles......when I go to fix it on my own dime, I'll have the head studs put in (couldn't get it done under warranty).

Sorry, guess I should've clarified that I wasn't having the coolant problem, only the fumes problem. But I let the truck idle last night and figured out that I had a fuel leak coming from the secondary fuel filter bowl...there's a piece next to the radiator hose that has 4 torx screws and apparently it is really bad about leaking.
