bassani lists the exit of the pipe being a 3" diameter. thats the inside diameter, right? do you know what the outside diameter is? i want the y pipe to slide into the cat, so when ordering a cat, it needs to have an ID the same OD as the Y pipe.

actually, i just priced it out. the cost difference in going from no cat to a cat is an increase of $93. i can't buy a stainless cat for under that, so i think it makes the most sense to go with the bassani pipe with cat.

so i received the bassani pipe - they never got back to me but i ordered it anyway. part #581503 listed to fit 88-95 F150's with a 5.8. i took some pictures of the stock pipe from my 1996 F350 with 351 next to ther bassani pipe. differences are exiting mounting flange, O2 sensor location (i will just extend the wires on my setup) and the air injection nipple. you can see the bassani pipe has a nipple welded to it to hook up an air line, but my motor has fittings on each exhaust manifold for the air injection. so i will simply plug this nipple. some of the bends are different, but still looks like it will fit. the motor is pulled now, so i can't say for sure it will definetly fit, but it sure looks like it will. bassani provided 3 nice band clamps and a 6" hose length for the nipple. its a nice piece. hopefully these pics help someone out.

That's a nice looking piece. I don't think you will need anything extra for the O2 sensor, the location is closer to the front than stock so you should have plenty of wire in your harness, maybe peel off some tape and see if the wire can be pulled back to the front.

That does look like a nice setup. Is that little bulge really a cat? I am probably going to go with that Y pipe on my truck. Well, the one for a 5.0.

yep, it is the cat. i had to look down through it to be sure myself. i like how its a 3 piece setup. that makes cat replacement (or hollowing out) a breeze should it ever be necesary.

i'll take a look at the O2 sensor wiring. i thought peeling back the harness may work. i'll check it out.

I went to a muffler shop to have my 1996 F350 460 V8 exhaust modified because the truck would choke up after 40 miles per hour if I got on it hard and stayed on it...... That problem was since I first bought it new... Shop found that Y pipe, Cat and Meffluer inlet/outlets were large diameter (I believe 3 inch) but the tubing necked up and done between the Y, Cat and Muffler. This was factory stock. Shop replaced all tubing with matching size (I believe 3 inch) and this trucks rolls out smooth and fast. No change in mileage but a huge performance difference. 110,000 miles today. I did the mod around 75,000 miles.

Not sure how this compares to the old one, but it sounds like they updated the cat, and now it is a welded part of the Y pipe:
Part# 581503 Bassani Exhaust - Bassani.com
2.25" inlet (Y), 3" straight pipe.
Auto anything has it.
