Great looking 53! Your 53 uses basically the same M-H drive equipment as the 48 - 52 F1 trucks had. The earlier type front axle is fit to your 53 using some altered Ford parts and brackets that allow it to meet up with the 53 front leaf width, which is 3 1/2 inches wider than the F1. The 53 F100s don't use the same rear lower shock mounts, and also don't have the "torque arms" on the front axle like the 48 - 52 F1s, which control front wheel hop, The "torque arms" on the F1s, are extra half leaf springs on each side, that run from the special front U bolt cap rearward to a swivel/shackle that is attached to an anchoring bracket bolted under the frame rail.
I have M-H trucks and I am putting together a registry of surviving M-H trucks in any condition, their owners, and serial numbers, along with a good picture or two, of each truck, and any history related to each. Any future restoration pictures, updates, or ownership changes can be submitted and added later on, with an ongoing former owners list included. Also trying to include transfer case numbers if any, and front axle production number, which is a number that some of them have stamped right on the front of the drivers side axle tube near the gear housing. this will add greatly to the authenticity and the value of any of the trucks included, and will also help owners with parts and maintenance issues. I can send you a copy of what I have when I get it together. Any owners info in this registry will not be given out unless OK by the owner. Keep your eye out for any other M-H trucks around you and pass this on if you can.
Thanks, Mark in Indiana thechassisman@comcast.net

Hey Mark, you need to look at this thread too. I'd have missed it if Bob hadn't given me a heads up. Stu
