Can brake controller be added?

My truck didn't come with the brake controller from the factory. Thinking of getting a trailer so I'm wondering if the dealer can add the factory controller or am I better off going after market?

There is another thread that talked about this. Yes you can order it from dealer but more then the $230.00 option, the price I don't. I would think the truck would be almost wired for it. It is a great controller. All the info comes up on dash (bulb out/loose connection/brake problems). Plus unless it's my imagination, it sets itself to the load? I set mine up with my trailer empty the first time I hooked up and haven't touched since. Loads have been between 2K to 8K lbs and the trailer stops on a dime (not really, just some old saying). If I was making the choice, I would choose the TBC from Ford. It integrates nicely with the rest of the system in the F150. But it's likely to be the most expensive too. Your call, it's your money.

If you do get the Ford TBC, make sure the dealer programs the truck to recognize the unit is now installed.

Mine had a tow package but no controller. I unplugged the one from my old truck, and plugged it right into my 09. The plug was capped off right by the steering column.
