Alternative Headliner Setups

Hey after tearing out my trashed headliner I am looking to replace with....something. Definatly do not have the money to buy a standard replacement so I am hoping to dig through the depths of knowledge here and see what others have done and how you did it......as long as it's cheap and clean....pics are helpful as well.

My original one was trashed from too much mud and several washes. I used the stock cardboard to make a template and then I padded it with some thin foam. I read that I could make some designes with another layer of foam. I came up with this:

Tha material itself was not expensive, I made friends with a local upholstery shop and used a scrap piece that I picked up for cheap.
Probably have about 20 bucks in the whole thing.

Nah, poor old Stetson is far more expensive than my headliner, but it keeps my bean dry and stays put if I am not wearing it and things get bumpy.
Funny though.............
Thanks for the compliment. I did not expect the letters to be that big or bold, and would do it different if I were to do it again. This one works Ok.

I was thinking luon. I want to use it for the headliner and for the door panels, cover it with vinyl upholstery, or cheap out and paint it on the smoother side. I want to back it with foam board insulation to keep heat in/out depending on the season.

I plan on doing the one for the crew out of like .040 aluminum. I will bead roll it for a little rigidity and then decide whether or not I want to cover it in tweed or just leave it.

I am in the same boat. I was in Lowes the other day and I found this fiber board. It is the same stuff they use as backing for dry erase boards. It was 8X4X1/8" thick. It is flexible, and paintable. I am just going to cut mine from the template of the old headliner, use 3M adhesive to glue some vynle to it, and then mount it as usual. It should be a great replacement. Plus, it was only 7 dollars.

I like this idea.....I do now realize I should have saved what I could from the old headliner to make a template for something new....will have to dig around and see if I still have it.

Also, if you have it in your budget, throw some dynamat up there on the roof. It quiets it down a lot!

If you have the trim ring, that will work as a good template, just cut the material about 3/8 of an inch smaller than it.
