I guess I never really started one here. I'll bring this thread up to date from when I picked it up to it's current status.
This is the first day I brought it home. I picked it up from a guy in Michigan and the truck originally spent it's life in Wyoming. Cost for the truck, 4750.00 plus fuel to get it.
Good spot for a license plate light.
Replaced the tailgate with my spare
Snaps around the entire back window for some kind of cover.
Welded those up.
Welded the hole in the pillar.
Solid floors and cab, no rot anywhere on the cab.
Converting it over to an A/C truck, used a spare dash I had. I went with a gray metallic for the new color.
And todays progress. I had some time this afternoon so I wanted to hit it pretty hard. I finished the inside rear window and got most of the interior into primer.
No more hole in the pillar.

Not to sure what I'm going to do here. I have an 8' box at the farm so right now I'm thinking of modifying it to a 6' box. I'm going to wait till I get into it a little more to see how bad it is. I can't for the life of me figure out why there is bondo down the whole side of the bed.
And the way I finished off for the day.
More to come as I get back to work on it.

Just checking in to subscribe to the thread.
BTW, the snaps around the rear window were put in for a "boot" or pass through for a slide in camper. These boots allowed the occupants to slide into the camper or into the truck while the vehicle was rolling.

My dad had one of those back in the day when I was young. Very comfortable set up for getting back and forth to bed or keeping the dogs in back.
Subscribing!!! Are you putting the factory Box type A/C in it that sticks out into the engine compartment or just the in dash style?? My 78 Crew i just got is an Automatic and Power Steering truck....but no A/C...I want to see what others are doing...I may cut the firewall hole and install the factory type A/C....I gotta have good cooling...and in a cab like that...Gonna need it for sure!!! LOL

Scott, you ever think about setting up a shop to restore these classics ? You would get a lot of business just by looking your other trucks. Nice work !!! What drivetrain are you going with ??

Looks good man. I would like to see a thread on the AC conversion. What drivetrain are you going with?
It will be the stock drivetrain, 44 up front. I don't wheel them when I get done building them. Right now I plan on sticking with the 4 speed, maybe down the road I'll convert it to a C-6.

Yeah I have seen those. The guy that put it in must of been half liquored up, the snaps were in no type of order when installed.

Right now I plan on cutting the hole and going with the factory style. Shouldn't be to hard to modify the firewall.

Um mine is a shortbed. AFAIK all 4wd crewcabs got a shortbed. I have yet to see a factory longbed crewcab 4wd. In fact the 79 Ford light truck facts book I have only list a 150.3" WB for a 4wd crew, no 8' box.

I have thought of restoring and selling 78-79's in the past Tony and it would not be worth it. I have roughly 22K in the Bronco the way it is and that is not a frame off. I would need to get roughly 30K for it to make any kind of a profit.

Nice to see another older F-series being kept from the crusher. Given your past work (the Bronco and the F250), should be looking pretty good when it's finished.
