What tranny is this?

I have a 3 speed automatic on a 240ci in a '65 f100. The tranny bellhousing part number looks like: RF C5AP-7976B, but the rear part of the tranny where it meets the driveline has part number: C8 TP-7A040-B. I understand the years to be a '65 bellhousing and a '68 on the other half, but which transmission is this?

If it's cast Iron than I would guess an FMX. But don't quote me as it has been a long time. If it is a cact iron case than it is one tough tranny.

Does the bellhousing unbolt from the tranny? if so then it would be a C4 that someone swaped in.

If it's an aluminum case with a separate bellhousing sounds like a C4 swapped in.

FMX werent put in trucks...ONLY C-O-M!!! Unless someone swapped another trans in...simple way to tell...look on RH side of trans case...if you see a lil squarish thing with lines coming out for water hoses as well as a couple of short metal lines going to the trans...thats a C-O-M...Had one...not the easiest thing to find cooler related parts for typically either..

(sigh) Y'all are guessing... and guessing wrong.

If it's a 240 it's a C4. The transmission pan has 11 bolt holes.

No MX Cruise-O-Matics in 240's.

No FMX in any truck except 1973/77 F350's with the 300 I-6.

The FMX was introduced in 1969, used in cars only thru 1979, with the one exception I typed above.

Peeps confuse the FMX with the MX Cruise-O used in 1958/67 cars / 1961/67 trucks...except with the 240 or in some cases the 300.

1965/66 F100/250's with 240 or 300 I-6's used C4's.

1965/66 F350's with 240's used C4's.

Some 1965/66 F350's with 300's used C4's, some used MX Cruise-O-Matic.

1965/66 F100/350's with 352's used MX Cruise-O-Matic.

btw: Both the FMX and MX transmission pans have 14 bolt holes, but the pan gasket and the filter are not the same.
