2007 Odometer backlight not working

It appears the odometer backlight problem has been around for a long time, aon many models. Does anyone have anyhting on the 2007 f150 Supercrew? Just had the engine replaced under warrenty at 35600 miles. Just as soon as I get 50 miles out of warrenty the the odometer light goes out.

It probably is the bulb behind the odometer. First unplug the battery. After that, just remove the two screws right above the gas and brake pedal and pop off the knee bolster. Then remove the two screws where the top of the knee bolster pops in. Grab the top of the plastic around the instrument cluster and work it out gently. It is just held in with clips. This will expose the cluster. It is held in by 4 screws. Remove them and unplug it from the truck (two plugs from the top), unclip the PRND21 (if a column shift) switch and pull it out. Flip it over and figure out which bulb is blown and replace it by twisting it out.
Hope this helps,
-Matt

I'm glad I was able to help. I know all of this because I just upgraded my stock (no tach) cluster with one out of a FX4. I had to take it out a couple of times. I love how Ford put the plugs on top of the cluster with those nifty little clip things. Makes life alot easier!

Yep...Had that little bugger in a spare lamp drawer in the garage...While im not planning to tear into my baby for awhile,I would like to have a cluster with tach at some point in the future.Ive also got a Pioneer aftermarket(with remote control) in the truck(sounds great)..it was in it when I bought it,but im a stickler for OEM.Might try to find an OEM dash unit in the future as well.....Thanks again bro!

Ebay is your friend if you want to do that upgrade, or find an OEM radio. I'm not 100% sure if the V6 & V8's clusters are interchangable. I'm pretty sure they are. Any F-150 with a manual transmission in this gen. truck will have a tach. All you have to do is switch the PRND21 switch and the blank plate on the other cluster. Make sure you get one with, or close, to your current mileage. Mileage changes can cost big $$$ (up to $350+). Here is a link just to give you an idea...

AND, one last thing. Does your truck have cruise since it's an XL? If not, get you a steering wheel off of Ebay with the cruise control buttons and take you a trip to the local dealership and have them install and activate it! You will have cruise. The buttons and indicator will light up. Since these trucks are drive-by-wire, you don't need all the other stuff...

I had the same problem on my 2007 Supercrew. I followed the directions as you did. The biggest issue was trying to pop off the cluster cover. Geez...... it wasn't as easy as "work it out GENTLY". I really had to pull...not knowing where the clips were I thought the whole thing would crack in my hands until it finally did really POP out. Fortunately no damage. You had a spare bulb on hand? I have never seen such a bulb before. My Ford dealer doesn't have one so I ordered 2. I hope to have it tomorrow and lets just hope the reassembly goes back in as easily??? as it came out.
Thanks,

Tom

Actually MY spare bulb was out of a cluster for a DSM(Mitsubishi Eclipse)...these seem to pretty common even if the dealership didnt have one. When I got my 07(about 6 months ago) my backlight was out as well.Kinda wondered if I could do a retrofit with a High Intensity LED,and dropping resistor..but after seeing how easy the replacement was I figured it wanst worth the trouble...Cheers!
