car headers dont fit in a truck. a car y pipe wont work on a truck.

350 for a carbed motor is to expensive. you will have less power with a 302 also down low compared to the 300-6.

check out fordfuelinjection.com and read up. i honestly think you would have better luck selling what you have and and buying a truck with the motor you want. to go from a 300-6 thats efi to a v8 and run carb is going to be expensive and more so then that efi harness. a 302/351w efi harness's are the same. i would check craigslist also for parts in your area.

do what you want, its your truck.

well after thinking about it i am going to wait and do a 351w swap because of two reason's more motor is always better right, and the tranny in my truck now needs seals so i will have to take it out sometime in the future anyway so why not just get a better one to put back in right but a 302 and 351 wiring harness will work together i didn't know that so i will need to get the same stuff but just for the 351w right. well guys i thank you for all your help thanks again

just keep tabs on craigslist. look for someone parting out a wrecked bronco/f150/f250 running the 5.8/c6 or 5.8/zf 5speed. this way you can get everything you need.

well things are going good with the swap not as bad as i thought it would be really. well for you guys wanting to do this swap if you get a motor out of a van you will have to take the wiring harness off that motor and use one off a truck much easier to work with but so far so good

You made the right decision going with the 351w. Sounds like you are making progress and learning a lot as you go, always a good thing!

Good luck with the rest of the swap and let us know how it turns out.

well the motor is in the truck and everything is hooked up i get to do the test run today. for everyone doing the swap to 351w from 300 i would tell them that it is a do able swap but they are going to have a lot of little stuff to fix before they can drive the truck. its not a swap that you can just drop in and go i think anyway. the biggest problem i have had is the exhaust. thanks for all the info and wish me luck

Question How about going the other way?

Interesting thread... My '84 F-150 has worn out its original 302/auto and I want to replace it with a 300 six & manual trans with as little cutting, drilling or welding as possible.

I know nothing about Ford interchangeability of transmissions/bellhousings/engines/motor mounts... is there a good swap book, or online data, that someone can point me to?

thanks
Charles

the 300 and 302 and 351w all have the same bolt hole patterns so you would be good with that. the 302 flywheel is different though you will need to get a 300 flywheel they are netural balanced where as your 302 is exterally balanced. but the starter and all that will work . you will need to get the motor mounts for a 300 as well they are different. and a radiator also. as for the tranny are you going with the old type 4 speed or you going to a five speed? i am sure their is a differnce their i know that the 5 speed is longer but other than that i haven't got any idea. any exhaust off of a 300 will work for you also it's all on one side so no big deal about it .well thats all i know i am sure someone else has more than me on this but that is all that i know of that you would have to change for sure .
