Offy heating plate

Hey guys--

I live in S. California. Do I need to connect my cooling/heating lines beneath my Offy DP manifold? I am running headers.

it would be a good idea, even if you see 80*+ weather like me in nevada.

Use 3/8-1/2 aluminum plate. A bit nicer job can be done using brass fittings rather than pipe fittings.

Running the water heat/coolant provides for better atomization and stabilizes temperatures in the induction system regardless of the weather.

I prefer the hot air system myself. Years ago I put on an after market header and intake eliminating the heat riser on a old AMC 258 I used a temperature controlled air cleaner to feed 80 deg air to the carb. Had no issues and I live in New England.
One of the mods that the GM LT1 boys like to do is to bypass the coolant to the TB to lower intake temps.
regards
rikard

Either way the idea is to stabilize the intake temperature which carbs especially like. Easier to tune when reducing the temp variable.

Col Flashman has a good reputation on FTE. Col Flashman has a good reputation on FTE.
'Old Man' Johnson of JMS Racing Engines drilled & tapped my Offenhauser 'C' Intake & connected it to my radiator system to provide heat.
Works real well too.

Will the plate fit if your using headers instead of the original split manifold?

The only way it does not fit is with the stock log exhaust manifold.

Harte3 did you use the dark ford blue on your engine? I'm painting mine and the color you used looks good.

My engine builder painted it...close enough to Ford blue for me.

A question - does the Offenhauser intake have a small chamber molded in at the base that the warm coolant collects in?

Yes, but it does not come with the plate and fittings to connect your heater lines to it. You have to make it yourself. Harte3 posted photos of the one he made for it.

Yeah, i figured that much out.

Just didn't know if the fittings on his plate terminated at the outside of the intake and just conducted heat through contact with the intake or if the intake actually had an uncapped 'resevoir' you could pump coolant into.

Thanks for the reply.

Yes but one could also make a gasket like what is used on a thermostat housing.
