Trans dropping out of O/D, hard. Any ideas?
I have an 03 Escape, V6, automatic. It has 132,000 miles on it.
Today it suddenly began dropping out of overdrive, quite hard. I don't know if it was dropping into second or third, or 4th, but it is much harder than when it drops out of OD when you're lugging it. It is clearly a problem.
At first I thought maybe it was randomly dropping down in gear, but when I switched off the OD it would run fine through the lower gears.
Is this something I can fix? I am not an automatic trans guy, but if it is a sensor or external valve or something I'd be pretty happy.
