Rear view mirror gauge pods

I want to add 3 more gauges to complement my 4 screen Quadzilla standalone I use.

Has anyone ever used the gauge pods that mount in the headliner above the rearview mirror?

How does it mount?

Is it secure or can I expect it to fall off in a month?

I can only assume the tabs slip into the headliner and the back portion utilizes velcro tape to hold it steady.....

If anyone can elaborate I would appreciate it.

Thanks
Joe

Just do a search for "overhead gauge pod" and you will find quite a few threads about them. Good info!

I had one in my '04 and loved it. I never had any issues with it falling off, it put the gauges right where I wanted to see them and was and easy install.

I like the location over the mirror but I have a hard time keeping the velcro adhesive to stick. I live in Las Vegas and the heat just melts the glue. I have found the best way to hold it in place is to snug the rear view mirror up to the bottom of the pod. Look in my gallery for pics.

Excellent.

jmaskew,

That is what I was worried about, is the adhesive coming off in high heat...I frequent AZ and not to mention the heat in SoCal can hit 110* at times. Where did you get yours from? I just looked at your gauge pod...it looks very nice. It looks like you were able to conceal the wiring in the headliner nicely.

Thanks for the replies guys!

The scangauge II have a very nice mount to install the scangauge on the rearview mirror. I bet that you could adapt that mount to secure your pod from the bottom. Check the pictures on their site to see if it fit your needs.

I have the scangauge with that mount. If you need any pictures from diff angles or measurements let me know........

If you get the mirror mount you could adapt it to secure your pod from the bottom without having to set your mirror to high on the headliner if that help you somehow..... I think you could order the mirror mount alone. Check on eeeevilbay!!!

I installed the 3 gauge pod over my mirror and love it. It was a pain to install though since the velcro would not hold and even 3M double sided tape did not keep it in place. I used clear silicone and ran a bead around the edge of the pod to help secure it to the windshield. It has been in place for over 3 years now and I would not do it any other way. One other bit of advice, if you are installing a boost gauge spend the money and get copper tubing. Just my 2 cents and the best thing I did for the install.

Great advice. I assume the plastic tubing melts over time?

I purchased mine through dieselmanor.com, a site sponsor and very good to deal with. Make sure to get the matching paint since the pod is black from the factory... the guys at dieselmanor will hook you up with the correct color. Oh, I would recommend LED's for the bulbs - they look great.

I got mine from Diesel Manor too. I'm very happy with it and it has stuck fine the two years I have had it up. I wiped the winshield with alcohol before I put it up and warmed the spot with a hairdryer. Since I already had a bunch of gauge hardware for my prior gauges on the driver side. I ran the wires up the passenger side. I put all them little gauge boxes behind the glove compartment.
