SD caliper slide pin upgrade question?

I'm replacing my front brakes and apparently the calipers call for a new
type of slide pin. I noticed these new slide pins have one pin with a rubber
grommet on the end and when installed it doesn't move in and out easily
like the old style pins. I heard these new pins were to fix a premature corrosion problem. Anyone work with these pins? Any thoughts?
Thanks.

I installed new slide pins in mine a while back. I accidentally slid the pin with the rubber piece into the bore, as a quick test fit, without grease on it and it was REAL tight. Both pins need a good coat of high temp caliper grease on them to move properly.

Some pics of mine here....

When I greased them the first time they(Rubber grommet pin) hydro-locked so I had
to remove some grease but the pin still is difficult to
move. I'm guessing this is OK. ??

Yeah, if you greased them you should be ok. Mine fit pretty snug but I could move them without much effort.

When you first installed them, with grease, did you slide them in and out a few times, while twisting them? That seemed to distribute the grease around a little better on mine. Also, I spread a little grease down in the bores before installing the pins (well, after the first initial test fit failure lol)

As mentioned the pins need the high temp "Teflon" grease. Standard grease will not hold up long.

I haven't gotten the upgraded pins yet, but the last time I did my brakes one of my pins was frozen in the bore (my truck was pulling horribly to the right when I stepped on the brakes). Took me over an hour to get it out without damaging it (took LOTS of PB Blaster and elbow grease). Next time I dive into th brakes, you can bet I'm going to put in the new pins!

Do you have a part number for the new pins? Is it something Autozone or NAPA has?

Not sure about Autozone or NAPA, but Ford's part number is 2C3Z-2C150-AA. I bought mine from fellow FTE member y2kfordparts.

Yes. I sled them back and forth to distribute the grease. One pin slides
real easy and the one with the grommet slides more difficult. I guess I'm expecting it to slide easier. Thanks for the help!

When reinstalled does the pin with the grommet go in the top or bottom bore of the Caliper.

Guzzles does not state this and the pins I am replacing must not be original as neither are Green.

i've had at least two of them, "that i can remember" in the last three years freeze up on me. one of them was so tight that i got angry an beat the thing so bad i had to buy a new caliper, cause the pin was so twisted in the bracket.

I just did my rear brakes on my 06' F-350,,,RR was squeaking when stopping,,,after getting the bleeder screws loose and working(with heat,, collapsing the 2 pistons,,,installing the new pads,,,and re-attaching,,,the next day the piston was frooze,,slider pins nice and free and greased,,brakes were smoking HOT !!

So out of the 2 rear calipers,,I had to replace one or 50% of them,,,and do the job over,,,the rebuilt caliper was $66 from carquest with the core,,,new slider pins are on it,,,greased and ready to go!!

Now I am going to do my front brakes soon,,,both front wheels are very warm,,,like brakes are dragging some,,,I am thinking to avoid the hassle of doing the Job over again,,(from a froze piston or what ever)I am just going to repalce the front caliper's also,, along with the new pads. truck has 46 k miles on it,, here in CT,,,plowing snow and driving in that stuff takes it toll,,,Here it is 10/18/09,,and big snow flakes are coming down now!
